The modern visitor of the remains of the Abbey is struck by the impressiveness of the open perimeter (no roof), made of brick and marble, which has witnessed throughout the centuries the power of that community.

The light seeping through the holes in the walls, the view of the sky from the open ceiling, as well as the floor which is actually a meadow, all make the scene incredibly evocative, especially at sunset.
